Imran Khan is a Cricketer and a Politician

Imran Khan is a former Pakistani cricketer and current politician. He played international cricket for two decades in the late 20th century and was considered one of the best all-rounders in the world. He also captained Pakistan to their only World Cup victory in 1992. After retiring from cricket, Khan entered politics and founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in 1996. He has been Prime Minister of Pakistan since August 2018.

Khan was born in 1952 in Lahore, Punjab, British India into a Pashtun family. His father, Ikramullah Khan Niazi, was a civil engineer and his mother, Shaukat Khanum, was a housewife.

 He has four sisters and one brother. His parents were middle class and his upbringing was modest; he attended a government school and then the prestigious Cadet College Hasanabdal. In 1971, he enrolled at Oxford University to study philosophy, politics and economics but ended up graduating with an honours degree in PPE (philosophy, politics and economics).

After graduation, Khan returned to Pakistan and played his first Test match against England at Lord's Cricket Ground in 1974. He quickly established himself as one of the leading players in the Pakistani team and became captain in 1982. He led Pakistan to several victories, including their first series win against India in 1986 and a successful defence of the Cricket World Cup title in 1992. He retired from cricket after Pakistan


Imran Khan's Childhood

Imran Khan was born on 5 October 1952 in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. He is the only son of Ikramullah Khan Niazi, a civil engineer, and his wife Shaukat Khanum. His paternal grandfather Pashtun and his maternal grandfather Punjabi. He has four sisters.


Khan was educated at Aitchison College, Lahore and the Royal Grammar School, Worcester. He went on to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Keble College, Oxford.

Imran Khan married Jemima Goldsmith in May, 1996. The couple have two sons together, Sulaiman Isa and Kasim. They divorced in 2004.

Imran Khan's Past Political Roles

Imran Khan was born in Lahore on November 25, 1952. His father, Ikramullah Khan Niazi, was a civil engineer and his mother, Shaukat Khanum, was a housewife. He is the only son of his parents and has four sisters. He received his early education from the Catholic Mission School in Lahore and then attended the Royal Grammar School Worcester in England. After completing his A-levels, he went on to study economics at Keble College, Oxford.

Khan began his career as a professional cricketer in 1971 and played until 1992. He also captained the Pakistani cricket team from 1982 to 1992. He retired from cricket after Pakistan won the Cricket World Cup in 1992.

In April 1996, Khan founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a centre-right political party. The PTI's primary objective is to create a "Naya" or New Pakistan through democratic means. In October 2002, Khan was elected to parliament for the first time as a PTI member from Mianwali constituency NA-71.
