Shahbaz Sharif is the current Chief Minister of Punjab, Pakistan. He has been in this role since 2008, and was previously the Provincial Minister for Finance from 1997 to 1999. Shahbaz is a member of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), and is the son of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.Shahbaz was born in Lahore on September 23, 1951. He received his early education from Saint Anthony's High School, before going on to study at Government College University. Shahbaz then attended Punjab University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.Shahbaz began his political career in the 1970s, when he became actively involved in student politics. He was elected as the President of the Punjab University Student Union in 1975. Shahbaz also served as a Provincial Councillor from 1985 to 1988. In 1997, he was elected as a Member of the National Assembly from Lahore.
